WTF Is A Biological Rhythm?

Biological rhythms can be defined as cyclical patterns within biological systems (humans, animals, and plants) that are impacted by different environmental influences. We don’t know shit about shit… but it seems like we have three different skeletons of biological rhythms.

  • Circadian rhythms: cycles that occur about every twenty-four hours. ex: Sleep follows a circadian rhythm.

  • Infradian rhythms: cycles that take longer than twenty-four hours.

ex: lunar cycle, menstrual cycle, seasons, annual.

  • Ultradian rhythms: cycles that occur more than once a day and less than 24 hours.

ex: deep sleep vs REM sleep, respiratory rhythms, metabolic rhythms

Biological rhythms impact things like our sleep and wakefulness, hormone secretion, moods and behaviors, body temperature, eating habits, and much more. Knowing your rhythm is a crucial factor of living a life that is authentic to you.

Disrupted Rhythm

Excuse me while I pop off for a second, but I feel like I am really connecting the dots here…

Hormone imbalances, energy levels, irregular periods, mood instability, seasonal depression, agriculture failure, inability to lose weight… the list goes on and on. When we disrupt our biological rhythms, in essence when we go against our bio-individual nature, we are voluntarily living a life setting us up for failure.

Our rhythms become disrupted by environmental impacts such as: screen time, lack of vitamin d, lack of nature in general, and food selection. Society, grind culture, media consumption, processed foods… these are all factors that are preventing you from reaching your health goals. This is why knowing yourself, reestablishing a connection with your intuition, and understanding how much of an impact your environment has on you is a nonnegotiable.

Now feels like a good time to get into epigenetic, but I’ll save the meat and potatoes for a different episode.

Your Bio Individual Rhythms

Everything begins within you. Not within what is working for your favorite influencer, not what is working for “the average American”, not some bullshit piece of advice coming from a doctor who is funded by pharmaceutical… WITHIN YOU.

So when we take into consideration the importance of bio-individual rhythms, we can then understand how we operate and what works best with our bodies. What jobs, what hobbies, what foods, what exercises…

Examples of biological rhythms that can help you better understand you:

  • Chronotype “is a classification system used to help understand sleep and productivity schedules, including when you’re most active and alert throughout the day.”

  • Astrology Birth Charts specific placements of the planets at the time you were born. Which can bring forward a better understanding of your inner world, outer world, ability to love, your strengths, challenges, how you fit in… and so much more.

  • The Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator identifies a person’s personality type, strengths, and preferences.

  • Menstrual Cycles time from the first day of a woman's period to the day before her next period. Understanding your menstrual cycle can help you balance work life behavior, understand and manage your moods, chances to get pregnant, sex drive…

  • Lunar Cycle lunar energy can impact our energy levels, our sleep, our emotions, our eating habits, our relationships… agriculture availability…

As you can see rhythms govern our life and when disrupted, control our lives. It is possible to reset our rhythms and one of my favorite ways to reconnect with the rhythms in a universal language is through the lunar cycle.

Closing…

Next week we will be going over Lunar Cycle Living, and fuccckkk am I excited!

Stay tuned… xx
